Does Your Organization Live Its Values?

Values motivate and guide behavior and decision-making. In organizational life, the values “in use” shape relationships and establish the company’s culture. While knowing and living from values leads to greater happiness and fulfillment, few people take the time to clarify their top values, and too few organizations tap into shared values as a source of energy, teamwork and motivation.

At Nebo, it is important to us that we strive to live our values every day. To encourage this, we have integrated our values into our annual performance review process. All staff know that the values are not just posted on a sign in a hallway but are expectations of everyone on the team.

We also encourage the integration of Nebo’s values into our work by recognizing our colleagues who exemplify those values throughout the year. The Nebo Snow Globe Award recognizes someone who has made a difference for others during the course of the year. At the heart of The Nebo Company is the intention to demonstrate every day that one person can make a world of difference. The Snow Globe Award goes to the person whom most people feel demonstrates qualities and values that are important to Nebo: Resilience, Excellence, Compassion, Impact and Partnership. Each employee is invited to submit three nominations for the award. At our annual holiday celebration, the person with the most nominations receives a beautiful snow globe selected just for them and is invited to select a charity to receive a donation from The Nebo Company.

Has your organization developed shared values to guide planning and decision making? Are all staff able to state the values and speak to how the values may be demonstrated from their role in the organization? We often work with organizations to identify shared values that will motivate and engage staff.
